Review: The Eternal Gift by Candy Crum

The Eternal Gift by Candy Crum

Amazon

Description:

A young girl (Kailah) discovers that she is from a lost and forgotten powerful Immortal blood line after she meets a strange new physician at work. She begins to have visions and see spirits and has trouble controlling bad things from happening when she is angry. Along the way she discovers the terrible truth about who she is and the incredible power that is locked away deep inside her. Her Immortal ancestors want to use her to destroy the vampire race. Vampires want to use her power to destroy her Immortal ancestors. But hiding in the shadows are those who have been watching her since she was born. They want to help Kailah discover who she is and help her learn to use her abilities. They simply want for her to make the right decision before it's too late. Unfortunately for them time is not on their side and the Rogue Vampires have plans for Kailah no one could have imagined

My Review:

This book was very well written, definitely had me hooked.
All the characters were "believable" and they got along superb.
As Kailah is learning her powers, she is taken into the home of Aeric, Brett and Khanae who are Vampires. Kailah is an immortal, her bloodline is to hate all vampires. But she learns to trust them and she learns from them how to use her powers, as they are there to protect her from her Great, Great, Great-grandmother Khia. Also siding with the vampires is Kailah's Great great grandmother Sayden.
Kailah has always had visions, and seen ghost. Now she is able to talk to the ghost and use their spirits to boost her powers.
As she is with Aeric she falls for him and he for her. But he tells her he can never be with her. He is always there to save her, as there are many times her life becomes in danger. The rogue vampires want her, to turn her into one of them for the power, vampires want her on their side to over balance the war and of course Khia wants her so they can rid the world of ALL vampires.
I love the banter between Kailah and Aeric! I can't wait to get ahold of the rest of this series!

Review: The Shadow and the Rose by Amanda DeWees

Amazon

Published November 2012

Description:

Sixteen-year-old Joy, a plain but feisty junior at Ash Grove High, is plunged into a dangerous love triangle when a classmate’s dare brings the chameleonic teen model Tanner into her life. Falling in love with Tanner can only lead to heartache—and danger—because he is trapped in a complex relationship with the seductive, powerful Melisande, a seemingly ageless supermodel. Melisande’s youth and beauty may be drawn from a sinister source... and she does not look kindly on rivals for her protégé’s affections.

At the same time that Joy is fighting to free Tanner from Melisande’s grasp—and from his own feelings of worthlessness—she struggles to cope with her father’s cancer and the discovery that her seemingly peaceful school is a conduit for supernatural energy. Without her father’s guidance, Joy must find within herself the strength to confront both the supernatural threat and her own unexpected pregnancy—and to save Tanner’s life

My Review:

Awesome read.  Joy is a determined young girl and a special school.  The school is for talented teens, talented in the arts of dance, music and theater.   She has had to move into the dorms because her father has gone to Oklahoma for cancer treatments.
One night on a dare she visits the graveyard and meets Tanner.  Later, she realizes he is Tristan a super model.  He also used to be a student at Ash Grove.
Tanner visits Joy occasionally while he is in town with his agent/guardian Melisande.  He has an attraction to Joy, but is subconsciously pulled to Melisande-something he can't understand.
Joy and Tanner enjoy their stolen time together, but Melisande up and takes off with Tanner/Tristan.
Joy experiences some supernatural things around the school.  The "council"  tells her of the supernatural beings/things surrounding the school.  And they discussed that Melisande may not be human.
Joy does some investigating of her own, and tries to warn Tanner.  But he just can't stop the pull to Melisande and get away.  In the end though, Joy and Tanner together break the "spell" Melisande has over him.
Amanda DeWees, wrote a great YA book with this one!  The characters are good, you even have the overprotective best friend.  There is not a lot of paranormal in this book, but its there.  Mostly from the 60% spot to the end.

My Review:

I give this 4.5 stars.  This book was awesome though,  highly recommend.
The author covers all of the paranormal elements: vampires, witches, werewolves, fairies, ghosts, zombies and voodoo!! And of course the romance side: steamy sex, hot males and beautiful women everywhere.  The author wrote this wonderfully tying all together.
Was wonderful to see all the characters from different "Fae" work together and bond.
Anais and her "sisters" are not your normal run of the mill vampires, they hold a deep secret.  They are witches too.  The girls all live together on an old refurbished plantation, and now have 3 sexy male witches to house and host to join together the witches and vampires.  Although, things go much deeper than any of them thought.
They reveal  their secrets to each other, and a romance builds.  A couple becomes bonded.
These girls kick ass, in fighting and in everything.  I just love all the characters in this book, except of course the bad guys.

Goodreads.

My Review:

Hot, steamy and sexy!! J.D. Nelson really wrote a great book.  Most definitely a 5 star book!  I don't give alot of 5 stars out either.
So we have the 21 yr old virgin Emelie, and the several thousand year old Soren and Kristian.  One is her True fated mate, the other is her fated mate by and change of fates.  Emelie must marry Kristian a Dark Elf King, to stop the war between the light and dark elves.
Soren, becomes Emelie's protector and teacher after her parents are killed.  She has never used her magic, she must learn how.  She also learns way more than she thought possible about her hertiage and true magic ablities.
Emelie and Soren have a hot non-sex life that leaves everyone (reader included) unsatified.  the magic bonding Emelie and Kristian is just as explosive!  But is never fully acted on.  Still unsatitied sexually, Emelie is able to do what she must to save All the elves and restore peace.
This is had some new paranormal elements to me.  I had not previously read any books with elves as main characters like this, so I don't know much about this topic.  But I found it fascinating that elves have fangs! and bite like vampires (but not to survive-for pleasure and bonding).  This book has alot of sexy males, and danger.  The end will have you dying for book 2, thank goodness it will be released soon!!

Love isn’t in the cards for her…

After her short failed marriage, Kate tries to rebuild her life and takes a position as a nanny to three small boys. She quickly grows to love them, but their father terrifies her, while igniting a passion she didn’t know she possessed. Disturbed by his distant manner with his sons, Kate struggles to make him more involved in the boys’ daily lives. Her efforts are mysteriously supported by an entity that cannot really exist. Or can she? And if she does exist, is she really trying to help Kate, or just take over her body?

But when he deals the hand, all bets are off…

Six years after his beloved wife passed away, Matthias Zrin is still trying to become the father she wanted him to be. Not an easy task for a three-centuries-old immortal. His search for the ultimate nanny ends when Kate Rokov stumbles to his home and into his arms. The immediate attraction he feels for her seems like a betrayal of his dead wife, a love he’s harboured for over three hundred years. But when Kate is stalked by a deadly stranger, the life he clung to in the past begins to crumble and break down. Can Matthias learn to trust and to love again in time to save his family from disaster, or will his stubborn pride destroy everything worth living for?

My Review:

Read from January 31 to February 03, 2013

I was given this by the author for an honest review. I have 4 stars marked but it was more on the line of 4.5 stars!
I try not to give to much of the story away in my reviews, that is why my reviews are sometimes short. I just want to say that before I get started.

*at times in the book, it felt like time moved super fast then you were reading for awhile at the same "time period". I understand you can't write every little thing that happens in a course of a year of two without skipping a few months here and there. But it almost felt like bouncing around. But never going back in time to recover anything.

Ok, so I really loved the story itself. Very capitulating.
The Guy from the Nanny agency was a decent villain, not like super scary. But just on the right side of creepy, stalky kind of villain.

The love Between Matthias and Kate was strong, stronger than I think Matthias realized at first. As he was also holding onto his wife's ghost and spirit. Their connection goes back, and amazing how he describes the connection they have.

The ghost/spirit of Matthias' wife was a little creepy to me, yet comforting at the same time.
Matthias is an immortal, bitten by a vampire some 3 centuries ago-yet is not a vampire himself. As time has gone on, especially with Kate he has more mortal blood. Yet at the end, Kate now has some immortal blood and they will live a LONG life together.
So after all the trials they go through they still get their HEA!!!
